It all comes down to this weekend and this Saturday night in particular: who will prevail in the battle for the Wesley Hall Cup? This year’s most consistent team and Premier League Champions Clinton or last year’s winners and third placed on the ladder Cap Coast? Will the team that has rested prevail over the team that has got better through the finals, disposing of second-placed Frenchville last week 4-2?
No matter who wins, it’s sure to be a cracking Division 1 CQ Premier League Grand Final to end the 2018 season.
With Clinton not featuring in the grand finals last year but with two teams there this year no doubt the Division 2 final will be as hotly contested as the Div 1 match. This week’s match-up is a repeat of the major semi-final where Clinton only narrowly got through 1-nil on the night so this game is bound to be another close one with Frenchville accounting for a determined Central side 3-1 in last week’s Preliminary Final.
Featuring on the program prior to the main event are two Intercity Challenge matches featuring winning senior teams from Gladstone and Rockhampton in community men and women’s competitions. At 1.00pm Gladstone’s Divsion 1 Grand Final winners Clinton will face off against Cap Coast White, winners of Rockhampton’s Community Men’s Grand Final. That will be followed at 3pm by the winners of the Gladstone Division 1 women’s comp Meteors versus Frenchville, this year’s winner of the Rockhampton Women’s League Grand Final. While the women’s challenge game has become an annual event the last few years, this is the first time that the community men’s teams have been included. And next year junior competitive teams will also be involved, making it a big and busy end to the season!
Good luck to all players, volunteers and officials involved this weekend at Clinton Fields.
