Football Queensland Central announces CQ North v Magpies Crusaders exhibition event
In a first for the region, Football Queensland (FQ) Central has announced the formation of two Central Queensland (CQ) North teams to play against Magpies Crusaders in a brand new exhibition event later this month.
The CQ North representative teams will travel to Mackay to take on Magpies Crusaders’ Under 23 and National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland Men’s sides in two games on Saturday, 20 February.
“Football Queensland Central is extremely excited to announce the upcoming CQ North v Magpies Crusaders matches in a significant boost for representative pathways in the region,” Region General Manager Andy Allan said.
“The exhibition event provides a valuable opportunity for our Central Queensland footballers to showcase their skills against high-quality opposition, while also creating a pathway for selection in higher representative levels of the game.
“This is the first time in our region that we’ve formed CQ North representative teams, and it has been fantastic to see all of our Rockhampton clubs working together to support this initiative by providing selection opportunities for local players.
“The matches against Magpies Crusaders’ U23 and NPL Queensland Men’s sides will no doubt be an invaluable experience for all CQ players involved, and I’d like to congratulate each player who was selected to participate.
“We are hopeful that this will become an annual event, and we look forward to building on this in the future to provide opportunities for women’s teams and youth sides to participate.”
Selections for the CQ North representative team for the Central Coast Inter City Cup representative weekend will follow this month’s exhibition event in Mackay.
