The Kappa Women’s Super Cup Round of 16 continues this Saturday with Central Football Club representing the Central Queensland region.
The Central Queensland Premier League side will travel north to face Mackay Premier Women’s Mackay Lions FC for a chance at securing a spot in the Quarter Finals against Brothers Townsville.
Central FC have been dominant in the local CQPL Women’s winning eight of their last nine matches, notching up a massive 59 goals.
Central FC Head Coach Marty Emerson said the squad were looking forward to travelling up to Mackay this weekend and have been relishing the Kappa Women’s Super Cup so far.
“It’s good that it’s kicked off for the women’s side of things as there’s never been a state-based competition for the regional teams to get involved in.
“They’ve been looking forward to it since the end of last year.
“Some of the girls after winning the local knockout competition in CQ…this year was the third year they’ve won it in a row so to get the chance to play some of the other teams in the other zones is something that they’ve looked forward to the challenge of,” said Emerson.
When asked which Central FC players would be key Emerson highlighted that it was the strength in the team playing as a unit that would give them an edge against a side they’ve never played against before.
“The advantage for us is we look to utilise everyone in the team and to play together as a unit,” he said.
“I think that’s one of the key things for us.
“We got to play against the Mackay Lions Women’s in the Frenchville 6-a-side competition in the weeks leading up to the season the last couple of years so we’ve got a bit of an idea on them from that but as an 11-a-side fixture goes we’ve never played them in a full-size format before,” said Emerson.
