The 2020 Football Queensland (FQ) Central Awards Week drew to a close on Friday, 13 November following five days of awards celebrating the 2020 season.
Kicking off last Monday, 9 November, the 2020 FQ Central Awards Week acknowledged the achievements of the teams, players and clubs across the Central Queensland Premier League 1 and 2, the Gladstone Community Women 1 and the Rockhampton Women’s League, alongside a new award recognising Central Queensland’s Volunteer of the Year.
The week-long celebration featured daily online content, with the winner of each award announced on the FQ Central Facebook page.
“Football Queensland Central would like to congratulate each of the teams, clubs and individuals who were recognised throughout the 2020 FQ Central Awards Week,” FQ Central Chair Andrew Pelling said.
“The 2020 season featured some outstanding individual and club achievements, and we were delighted to be able to acknowledge the accomplishments of our award winners despite the challenges we’ve faced this year by proceeding with the FQ Central Awards Week online.
“Football Queensland Central was proud to present the inaugural Bruce Wherry Volunteer of the Year Award as part of this year’s FQ Central Awards Week, created in honour of the service and dedication of Bruce Wherry who retired earlier this year after 10 years of service to the game,” FQ Central Operations Manager Kerry Gray said.
“Joint winners Cecil Newman and Bryan Graff were named the Bruce Wherry Volunteers of the Year due to their significant contribution to football in Central Queensland this year.
“Cecil and Bryan are both gentlemen of the game who have dedicated over 30 years of service to football in Rockhampton. Both have been pivotal in the maintenance of Norbridge Park this year, providing a significant contribution to junior football in the region.
“A special thank you to Cecil and Bryan for their unwavering dedication to our game, and congratulations again on being named joint winners of the inaugural Bruce Wherry Volunteer of the Year Award.
“Dedicated volunteers like Cecil and Bryan are integral to our game, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all volunteers from across our Central Queensland clubs for their hard work and commitment this season.”
A host of awards were also presented across the Central Queensland Premier League 1 and 2, the Gladstone Community Women 1 and the Rockhampton Women’s League, including individual awards such as the Golden Boot and Grand Final Player of the Match, and club awards including Premiers, Grand Final Winners and Premier Club.
